Wedding

A Punjabi night wedding

a wedding story

Kaleeras, a kirpan, a red carpet and warm lights after dark: close, quiet portraits on a big wedding night.

The bride resting her head on the groom's chest, eyes closed, his sehra beside her face

The story

By the time the portraits came round it was dark, and the venue's entrance was lit up like a stage: white columns, tall glass doors, marble steps and a red carpet running down the middle.

We used all of it for the wide frames, with the bride twirling her red lehenga while the groom walked towards her. Then we moved in close. Warm lights behind them turned into soft circles, and we let them stand together for as long as they liked.

The details carry this set. Her kaleeras swing from her chooda, his sehra hangs by her cheek, and he carries his kirpan. In the closest frames both of them have their eyes shut.
